Problem formulation:The company Ökofen in Lembach needs for their heatings M10 screws with a length of 20 mm, which have a drilling through the screw along the longitudinal axis. The drillings make the workshop of Ariola in Peilstein. Ariola made the drillings with a customary state drill. The problem is that there is the danger that the persons who are spiritually or physically impaired could hurt themselves with the standing drill. Therefore we and our school were asked to build a “half-automated” drilling station.

System description: The term “half-automated” meant that at least one person can be occupied by machine. Therefore the drilling station was built that the screw supply occurs through a magazine. The magazine admission was specially separated from the real machine to avoid injuries.Inside of the machine, after the magazine, the screws are isolated with the help of two cylinders. Afterwards the screw slides along a guidance, supported with a small aerial impulse, to the clamp device and there the screw is clamped. If the screw is firmly clamped, the drill and the feed motion switch on. Because the drilling develops a lot of heat it is necessarily to use a cooling agent and put the drill four times out of the screw. Furthermore a chip-refractive drilling is unavoidable. After drilling the screw, both cylinders of the clamp device go back and the screw falls in the screw-box. Now it is possible to take screw from the screw-box without danger.
